Paradise Valley Morocco: How to Visit from Agadir and Taghazout

Paradise Valley is a gorge in the foothills of the High Atlas, inland from the coast north of Agadir. A river has cut a path through the rock, leaving palm trees, cliffs and a series of natural pools. It is one of the most popular day trips from the surf villages, and a perfect plan for a flat day.
Where is Paradise Valley?
The valley lies in the Ida Outanane region, along the road that climbs from Aourir (Banana Village) towards the mountain village of Imouzzer. From Tamraght or Taghazout the drive usually takes 45 minutes to an hour, winding up through argan trees and small villages.
How to get there

- Private taxi: agree a return price with the driver, including waiting time.
- Rental car: possible, but the road is narrow and winding in places. Drive slowly and watch for goats and cyclists.
From the parking area it is a walk of around 20 to 30 minutes along a rocky path to the main pools. Wear shoes with grip.
What to do in Paradise Valley
Swim in the rock pools
The main attraction. The water is cool and clear, and in a good year the pools are deep. Always check the depth before jumping, as water levels change a lot between seasons.
Walk the gorge
Follow the river further up the valley to escape the crowds. The scenery changes from palm groves to steep rock walls.
Lunch by the river
Small cafés near the pools serve tagine, omelettes and mint tea. Prices are simple, and eating with your feet near the water is part of the experience.
Taste local honey and argan
The region is known for its honey, and you will pass argan cooperatives on the way. Stop to see how argan oil is made and buy directly from the women who produce it.
Best time to visit
Spring is the favourite season: the valley is green and the pools are usually fuller after winter rain. Summer is hot and busier, and pools may be lower. In any season, arrive in the morning for the calmest experience.
Safety note: do not visit during or right after heavy rain. Mountain rivers can rise quickly and flash floods are a real risk.
