Agadir Airport to Tamraght and Taghazout: Transfer Guide

You have landed, you can smell the ocean, and all that stands between you and your first wave is the drive from Agadir airport to Tamraght or Taghazout. It is a short trip, but after a flight you want it to be easy. This guide explains your options, how long each takes, what to expect when you land late, and how to arrive by road if you are coming from Marrakech.

Agadir airport to Tamraght: distance and journey time

Agadir Al Massira airport (AGA) sits inland, south-east of the city. Tamraght and Taghazout are north of Agadir, on the coast road towards Essaouira, so the journey takes you around or through Agadir and then up the coast past Aourir, which locals often call Banana Village. By car it is usually 45 minutes to an hour to Tamraght, and a little more to Taghazout, depending on traffic and the time of day.

Option 1: a pre-booked airport transfer

This is the option we recommend, especially for a first trip. A driver waits for you in arrivals with your name, helps with your bags and boards, and drops you at the door. There is no negotiating, no searching for your accommodation in the dark and no surprises on the price.

Option 2: a taxi from the airport

Taxis wait outside the arrivals hall. They are a reasonable option if you have not booked anything, but a few tips help:

• Agree the full price before you get in, including luggage and surfboards, and confirm it is for the car, not per person.
• Name the exact village and, if you can, show the location of your accommodation on your phone. Tamraght and Taghazout are neighbours, but they are not the same place.
• Have dirhams ready. There are ATMs and exchange desks in the airport; use them before you leave.
• Prices at night are often higher, and fewer cars may be waiting after the last flights.
• Keep the driver’s number or take a photo of the taxi if you want peace of mind, and sit in the back with your bag nearby.

Option 3: bus and grand taxi

If you are on a tight budget, travelling light and arriving in daylight, public transport is possible. You would take a bus or taxi from the airport into Agadir, then a grand taxi or local bus up the coast towards Aourir, Tamraght and Taghazout. Grand taxis are shared cars that leave when they are full; agree the price first. Timetables and routes change, so check the current information locally rather than relying on old blog posts. With a surfboard bag, a big suitcase or a late flight, this option quickly stops being worth the saving.

Tips for late arrivals

Many flights to Agadir land in the evening or late at night. That is perfectly manageable with a bit of preparation:

1. Book your transfer in advance and send your flight number so your driver can follow any delay.
2. Save your accommodation’s phone number and address offline. Ours is +212 7 24 12 21 20.
3. Download an offline map of the area, in case your phone has no data yet.
4. Get some cash at the airport for tips, water or a snack.
5. Let your hosts know if your flight is cancelled or rerouted, so nobody waits in vain.

What to say to drivers

Most drivers around Agadir speak some French and often some English. A few phrases help:

• Salam alaikum for hello, and shukran for thank you.
• “Tamraght, Hay Sarele” tells a driver the neighbourhood of our riad in the village centre.
• “Combien pour Tamraght?” (how much to Tamraght?) before you set off.
• “C’est pour la voiture?” to confirm the price is for the whole car.

If in doubt, call us and hand the phone to the driver. It solves most problems in a minute.

Arriving from Marrakech

Some travellers fly into Marrakech and come to the coast by road. The drive takes about 3.5 to 4 hours, crossing the foothills of the Atlas before dropping down to the Atlantic. You can book a private transfer for the whole journey, or take an intercity coach to Agadir and continue from the bus station by taxi or transfer.
