Surfing in Morocco in February: Waves, Weather & Wetsuits

JACKPOTE · 2026-10-26T08:00:41+00:00

If you are planning to surf Morocco in February, you are picking one of the best months of the year for consistent Atlantic swells. Based in Tamraght, right on the coast, February brings solid winter waves, sunny skies, and manageable crowds compared to peak European holidays. The water is fresh but easily handled with the right wetsuit, and the variety of breaks nearby means there is a spot for every level, from first-time beginners to seasoned longboarders. February Weather in Morocco: Sun, Temperatures and What to Pack February in Tamraght is pleasant and mild. While Europe is freezing, the Moroccan coast enjoys daytime temperatures around 20 to 24 degrees. You will wake up to clear blue skies almost every day. The sun is strong, but the Atlantic breeze keeps the air comfortable. Mornings and evenings can be chilly, so packing layers is essential. You get the active surf lifestyle without the sweltering heat of the summer months. Atlantic Swell in February: Wave Sizes at Anchor Point, Tamraght and Beyond February sits right in the middle of the prime surf season, which runs from September to April. The Atlantic sends consistent, long-period ground swells during this time. This means reliable waves, and you will rarely have a flat day. Wave sizes vary depending on the spot. Anchor Point can hold sizeable swells, often reaching head-high to double overhead on a good winter day. It is a magnet for advanced surfers looking for long, peeling right-handers. Just down the coast, Tamraght beach offers more manageable peaks, while Devil's Rock provides fun, rolling waves that suit intermediate surfers perfectly. Checking the daily forecast is part of the routine. You can always check our live surf report to see what the ocean is doing before you grab your board. February brings consistent Atlantic swells to the Moroccan coast. Water Temperature and Wetsuit Guide for February Surfing The Atlantic Ocean retains its winter chill in February. Water temperatures hover around 16 to 18 degrees Celsius. It is refreshing, but nothing a good wetsuit cannot handle. For most surfers, a 3/2mm wetsuit is perfectly fine for sessions up to two hours. If you feel the cold easily or plan to stay in the water longer, a 4/3mm wetsuit is a safe bet. You do not need a hood, gloves, or boots. The air temperature warms up quickly, so peeling off your wetsuit in the sun is actually a nice feeling. If you do not want to travel with your own gear, do not worry. You can rent quality wetsuits and boards locally. Our surf lessons in Tamraght include all the gear you need, so you can just show up and surf. Best Surf Spots in February for Beginners, Improvers and Advanced Surfers The coastline around Tamraght is famous because it caters to everyone. February swells are generous, and knowing where to go makes all the difference. For beginners, the beach breaks at Tamraght and Panoramas are ideal. The sandy bottoms are forgiving, and the waves break softly, allowing plenty of time to pop up. Improvers and intermediate surfers will love Devil's Rock and Banana Point, where you can work on trimming and turning on clean, green waves. Advanced surfers should look at Anchor Point, Killer Point, and Boilers. These spots handle the bigger February swells and offer some of the best right-hand point breaks in the country. Just watch the rocks and respect the local lineup. February is a brilliant time to experience the Moroccan surf coast. Whether you are here to charge heavy winter waves or finally learn to stand up on a board, Tamraght is the perfect base camp.
