Do I need a visa for Morocco?
Citizens of about 70 countries, including the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, can visit Morocco as tourists without a visa for up to 90 days. The 90 days start on the date stamped in your passport when you arrive. Other nationalities may need an electronic visa: check with the Moroccan embassy or the official website of the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs before you book your flight.
My passport
- It must be valid for at least 6 months after you enter Morocco.
- Keep at least one blank page for the entry stamp.
- Check that it is stamped on arrival.
Money: dirhams and cash
The currency is the Moroccan dirham (MAD). You usually cannot get dirhams before you travel, so take some at a cash machine or an exchange desk at Agadir airport when you land. In the villages, small shops, cafés and taxis often only take cash, while hotels and bigger shops take cards. The rest of your surf trip is paid on arrival.
Phone and internet
You can buy a local SIM card with data at the airport or in Agadir with your passport; it is usually cheaper than roaming. The riad has wifi, and many guests work from the rooftop: see our coliving page.
Plugs, time and water
- Plugs: European round two-pin plugs (types C and E), 220 V.
- Language: Moroccan Arabic (Darija) and Tamazight; French is widely spoken, and our team also speaks English and Spanish.
- Water: most travellers drink bottled or filtered water.
