A view of Paradise Valley in Morocco showing natural rock pools surrounded by palm trees and cliffs

If you are looking for things to do Paradise Valley Morocco offers far more than a simple swim. Just a short drive from our riad in Tamraght, this lush palm gorge is the ultimate rest-day escape during a winter surf trip. While the natural pools are the main draw, you can easily fill a full day with cliff jumping, natural rock slides, hiking and relaxing at hidden café terraces. For the full overview, read our Paradise Valley Morocco: The Complete Guide.

Why winter is the best time to visit

From September to April, the Atlantic coast serves up its best waves, making it prime time for a surf holiday. However, consecutive days in the water can tire your muscles. Paradise Valley provides the perfect land-based alternative. In winter and spring, the mountain pools are fuller and the air is fresh but sunny. It is an ideal balance to the salty ocean mornings, giving your shoulders a rest while keeping you active in nature.

Top activities beyond the water

Most visitors walk down to the first pools, take a dip and leave. To make the most of your trip, try these activities:

  • Cliff jumping: For adrenaline seekers, there are several jumping spots with varying heights. Always check the water depth first, as levels change with the seasons.
  • Natural rock slides: Smooth rock formations have been shaped by water over time, creating natural slides that drop you straight into deep pools.
  • Hiking trails: Follow the riverbed upstream to escape the crowds. The trail gets rockier the further you go, rewarding you with quieter spots and untouched nature.
  • Café terraces: Perched on the rocks, small local cafés serve fresh mint tea, avocado smoothies and tagines. It is the perfect spot to read a book or simply enjoy the view.
  • Photography: The contrast between the arid mountains and the green palm grooves is striking, especially in the soft afternoon light.
  • Birdwatching: The oasis attracts a variety of local birds. Bring binoculars if you enjoy spotting wildlife in the early morning.

How to plan your day trip

Timing is everything. The gorge is best enjoyed from mid-morning to mid-afternoon. We recommend leaving Tamraght around 9:30 AM to arrive before the large tour buses. The walk down into the valley takes about twenty minutes, so wear comfortable shoes with good grip. Bring a small backpack with sunscreen, a towel and drinking water. You do not need to pack lunch, as the local cafés offer excellent homemade Moroccan food right by the water.

Combining the valley with your surf week

A standard surf week involves several days of lessons and free surfs. When planning your trip, designate a rest day in the middle of your stay. We organise half-day trips to Paradise Valley directly from the riad, handling all the transport logistics for you. This means you can sleep in, enjoy a slow Moroccan breakfast on our rooftop and still be at the pools by late morning. It is a seamless way to balance active ocean days with peaceful mountain excursions.

Whether you are here for a quick five-day trip or a full week of surfing and exploring, having a rest day is key to keeping your energy up.
