If you are planning to surf Morocco in December, expect solid Atlantic swells, sunny days, and water that requires a good 3/2 wetsuit. December is prime time on the coast between Agadir and Taghazout, offering consistent waves for all levels, especially intermediate surfers looking to progress on the area's famous point breaks.

December Weather in Morocco

December brings winter to the Moroccan coast, but the climate remains remarkably mild compared to Europe. Daytime air temperatures in Taghazout and Tamraght typically hover around 20 to 23 degrees Celsius. You will enjoy bright blue skies and plenty of sun, making it perfect for drying off on a rooftop after a morning session. Daylight hours are somewhat limited, with the sun setting around 5:30 PM, so surfers usually plan their sessions for the morning or early afternoon to catch the best light and offshore winds.

Swell and Wave Conditions

December is part of the peak surf season, which generally runs from September to April. The Atlantic Ocean sends consistent, long-period ground swells during this month. You can expect solid swell sizes, often ranging from chest high to double overhead depending on the day. The points and beaches really come alive, holding their shape well under the standard winter swell directions. Mornings usually offer clean conditions with light offshore winds, while afternoons can see a sea breeze that slightly textures the wave faces.

Water Temperature and Wetsuit Guide

The water temperature in December drops to around 16 to 18 degrees Celsius. It is refreshing but manageable with the right gear. A 3/2mm wetsuit is the standard recommendation for most surfers this month. If you feel the cold easily, bringing a 4/3mm wetsuit is a safe bet, especially for longer sessions. You will not need boots, gloves, or a hood.
