A surfer riding a clean winter wave at a point break near Tamraght, Morocco

If you are checking the surf Morocco February conditions, you will be glad to know this is one of the best months of the year for solid swells on the Atlantic coast. Based in Tamraght, we see consistent waves rolling in all month. The weather is mild, the water is cool, and the lineups are far less crowded than in the peak summer holiday weeks. Here is exactly what to expect if you are planning a trip.

Weather in Morocco in February

February is still winter on the Moroccan coast, but it is nothing like a European winter. Daytime temperatures in Tamraght usually sit between 18 and 22 degrees Celsius. You will get plenty of sunshine, but mornings can feel fresh with a bit of coastal fog.

You do not need heavy winter clothes. A warm jumper for early mornings and evenings is enough. During the day, a t-shirt is often fine on the rooftop. The sun is strong, so bring sunscreen for your face. Rain is possible but usually does not last more than a day or two.

Surf Conditions in February

This is prime swell season. The Atlantic sends regular groundswells from September to April, and February often sees some of the most consistent surf of the year. Wave sizes commonly range from chest high to double overhead, depending on the day.

Swell periods are typically long, meaning the waves have more power and better shape. This is great news if you are an intermediate surfer looking to progress. Beginners will still find plenty of friendly waves on the inside sections and at sheltered beach breaks. You can check the Live surf report before you pack your board.

Water Temperature and Wetsuit Guide

The ocean is at its coolest in February. Water temperature sits around 16 to 18 degrees Celsius. It is not freezing, but you will feel the chill after a two-hour session.

A 3/2mm wetsuit is the absolute minimum, but a 4/3mm is a much better choice for most people. If you feel the cold easily, add neoprene booties. The wind can pick up in the afternoon, making the air feel cooler when you get out of the water. We provide good quality wetsuits for guests, so you do not need to travel with your own if you are flying in.

Best Spots Near Tamraght for February Swells

When the swell is up, the point breaks around Tamraght and Taghazout really turn on. These spots handle the bigger swells well and offer long rides.

  • Panoramas surf spot guide: A long right-hander that works well on bigger swells. Great for intermediate surfers working on their turns.
  • Devil's Rock surf spot guide: Just south of Tamraght. It offers a right-hand break over a rocky reef. Good when the swell is clean.
  • Tamraght beach surf spot guide: The beach break right in front of the village is ideal for beginners and improvers. It is sheltered from the worst of the wind.
  • Anchor Point surf spot guide: A famous right point break that needs a solid swell to work properly. February is the time to see it at its best.

The key to a good February session is timing. The wind is usually lightest in the morning, so we aim to be in the water early. By afternoon, the wind often turns onshore.
