Taghazout at a glance
Taghazout started as a small fishing village and became the best-known surf spot in Morocco thanks to a string of right-hand points just north of the village. Today it mixes fishing boats, colourful houses stacked above the beach, surfers carrying boards through narrow lanes and a lively seafront at sunset. It is busier than Tamraght, which is part of the fun. We are 10 to 15 minutes away, so our guests usually come for a session, a wander and dinner, then head back to the calm of the riad.

10 things to do in Taghazout
1. Watch (or surf) Anchor Point
Anchor Point is the most famous wave in Morocco: a long right-hander that can run for hundreds of metres on a good winter swell. It is an advanced wave with a rocky entry and a crowded lineup, so most people watch from the cliff. If you are ready for it, our guided Anchor Point session (€40) gets you there at the right tide with someone who knows the paddle-out.
2. See the pros at Killer Point
North of Anchor, Killer Point breaks further out and handles big swell. It is a spot for experienced surfers, but the walk along the cliffs to look at it is worth doing for anyone, especially on a clear winter morning.
3. Surf Hash Point and Panoramas
For intermediates, Hash Point right in front of the village is a fun, playful wave, and Panoramas just to the south offers a longer beach and point setup. Both are good places to take the next step after learning. Board and wetsuit rental with us is €12 a day.
4. Skate or watch at the skatepark
The Taghazout skatepark, perched above the ocean, is one of the most photographed spots on the coast. Local kids, travellers and surfers waiting for the tide share the bowl. Even if you do not skate, an hour sitting on the edge at golden hour is a treat.
5. Wander the village lanes and the seafront
Walk up from the beach through the steep, narrow lanes, past murals, painted doors and tiny shops. Down on the sand, fishing boats are pulled up in the morning and the catch is sold right there. It is a small village, so an hour of slow wandering covers most of it.
6. Take in the sunset
Taghazout faces west, and sunset is the social hour. The seafront terraces fill up, people gather on the rocks and the surfers come in with the last light. Arrive a bit early if you want a seat with a view.
7. Book a yoga class
Surf and yoga go hand in hand here, and you will find classes in the village. If you stay with us, our rooftop yoga in Tamraght (€15) is the easy option, with the same ocean view and none of the crowd.
8. Cook with an Amazigh family
On our 7-Day Morocco Discovery trip, the Taghazout day includes an Amazigh cooking class, where you learn the Berber dishes that are cooked in homes along this coast. It is a warm, very local way to understand the region. We also run a tagine cooking class (€30) you can add to any trip.
9. Head north to the dunes
Just north of the village the coast turns wild. The dunes at Aghroud are perfect for a sunset camel ride (€30), described on our Aghroud dunes page. A little further up are the Timlalin dunes, where we go sandboarding on the way back from Imsouane.
10. Take a day trip to Imsouane
About 1 h 20 north, Imsouane has one of the longest right-hand waves in Morocco, in a sheltered bay that suits beginners and longboarders. Practical tips for Taghazout
- Surf season: the points work best from October to April, when the Atlantic swells arrive. In summer the points are often flat and the beaches take over.
- Know your level: Anchor and Killer are not beginner waves. Start at the beaches and move up with a guide.
- Getting there: it is 10 to 15 minutes by car from Tamraght. Taxis run along the coast road; agree the price before you get in.
- Cash: bring dirhams. Many small places do not take cards.
- Respect the village: it is still a home for local families. Cover up when you leave the beach and ask before you photograph people.
- Parking and crowds: the village gets busy at weekends and in the high season, so go early for the best of it.
